Mise-en-scene

Mise-en-scene is french for screen/frame and things that are included in the mise-en-scene are settings, costumes, props, lighting, colour, appearance of characters and the postioning of characters and objects.

Here are some examples of mise-en-scene.
This is an image of someone getting angry and a close up is used.

This is an image of someone who is confused.

This is an image of a deserted house and is often used in horror movies. Nearly every horror movie will have a haunted house or a dark gloomy place where the characters are stuck and in these places.
This is an image of a villian and the appearance of the character shows the audience that he is the villian in the movies because of the face paint and costume.
