This trailer appeals to the audience because is shows what sort of film it was and what sort of people it appealed to. this trailer gives the audience an insight to the story but not the full story and it does this to makes the audience want to go and watch to the film to find out what happens to the main characters.
North by north west was directed by alfred Hitchcock who was a very successful director some of his other films include psycho and the birds which were also very good films. Also the main star was cary grant who is an icon in the film industry and has been a very famous actor in the early 1900s.
What makes thrillers so good is their fast paced, frequent action a scene that shows this in North by northwest is the crop duster scene where the main character is attacked by a plane. this scene had fast paced action  

Genre & Narrative

Genre is the way that we classify films into groups, this is done by putting films that are similar in the same genre such as horror. There are many different types of genre including comedy, thriller and many others.

Narrative is the story of the film also know as the plot of the film. There are different ways that the narrative is shown through the film but the most common one is linear which is when the events of the film take place chronologically. But the other way is non linear where the sequence of events don't take place in the correct order but all jumbled up.
